About the Train

The  legendary Orient Express train is a work of art in itself and a true Art Deco icon that is famous the world over. Romance, adventure and the mystery of the past  are all intimately bound up in journeys that visit  some of the most alluring continental cites.    As with many trains of this style, it is evocative of a more gracious, elegant age of travel.   Delightful vintage cabins, gastronomic cuisine with delicious afternoon teas and exquisite four course dinners along with  lively on-board entertainment make a journey aboard this iconic train one of the world’s finest travel experiences.

Accommodation

Cabins

Cabins convert in moments from daytime seating to a luxurious bedroom, all performed by stewards whilst passengers enjoy a gourmet dinner in the restaurant car.

Double Cabin – During the day each Double Cabin is configured as a lounge with a banquette sofa, footstool, small table and an original washbasin cabinet with hot and cold water. At night it becomes a cosy bedroom with an upper and lower bed, complete with soft towels and crisp linen.

Cabin Suite – A Cabin Suite consists of two interconnecting Double Cabins. You can choose between single beds or keep one cabin as a lounge, with upper and lower beds in the other.

A beautiful mosaic-tiled lavatory is located in each carriage.

Bar Car

The Art Nouveau interior creates a wonderful evocative atmosphere, enhanced by the playing of the baby grand and the elegant dress of fellow passengers.  Relax with after-dinner drinks.

Dining Cars

Dining on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is an unforgettable delight. All dishes are freshly prepared on the train by skilled French chefs, with the finest supplies taken onboard during the train’s journey.  Lunch, dinner and brunch are served by waiters in one of the three individually styled Restaurant Cars: Cote d’Azur, Etoile du Nord or L’ Oriental.  Breakfast and afternoon tea are served to passengers in the comfort of their cabins.

Boutique

The onboard boutique is located at the rear of the Lalique car.  What better way to remember this memorable journey, than to enjoy a gift from the Collection Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.  These train inspired home accessories include original art nouveau brass table lamp and hand blown French crystal. Plus classically fashioned ladies’ and gentlemens’ accessories in luxury pure silk, cashmere and velvet.  So whether you are choosing something for yourself, or selecting a gift for a friend, it will forever remain a beautiful memento of your journey.

Catering

European cuisine is freshly prepared in the train’s kitchen.   Fresh ingredients are taken on board at stops along the route. Look out the window and you may spot the chef inspecting lobsters from Brittany, tomatoes from Provence or saltmarsh lamb from Mont St Michel.

The set-menus are an inclusive part of your trip. Drinks and à la carte options are also available at an additional charge.

Chefs will be delighted to cater for any specific dietary requirements, provided a detailed request is made at the time of booking.

London – Venice – London

The romantic classic that can be done in reverse and also as a return journey.

This journey has been included in many novels, passing into history as a classic.  It also gives one a chance to sample two beautiful trains.  Boarding the British Pullman  in London Victoria, one’s imagination  is stirred by the elegance  of the interior, accompanied by a feeling of being reinvigorated and pampered whilst being served a delicious brunch.   The Kentish countryside blends into the English Channel, and one is seamlessly transferred to the waiting Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in France.  Whilst you sample a delicious four-course dinner, your cabin is transformed into a delightful bedroom.

Awake to the magnificent scenery of the Swiss Alps as breakfast is served in your cabin at a time to suit.  Whilst passing through Innsbruck, a relaxing morning moves into a leisurely three-course lunch, served in a beautiful restaurant cars.  The afternoon sees the breath-taking Italian Dolomites come into view, and afternoon tea is served as you travel through the Brenner Pass.   All too soon the train crosses the Venetian Lagoon and pulls into Santa Lucia station.  A journey to remember.

This is a delightful  way to take in Venice at leisure, whilst having the luxury of two nights on the train with all the travel through wonderful scenery.  This  five-day return trip, with a two night stay in Venice (hotel at your own cost), allows one a day in Venice to absorb the atmosphere, visit the key monuments and just enjoy this romantic city.

London – Paris

A classical way to travel to Paris.  Board the British Pullman train at London Victoria station.  Sit back and enjoy Brunch served with a Bellini as you travel to the Kentish coast, prior to the crossing to France where you join the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.

After you have settled in, enjoy a delicious four-course dinner, prepared by skilled French chefs, before arriving in Paris in the evening.  This journey may also be taken as a return.

Paris to Venice, or Venice to Paris

Linking two romantic cities, board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Paris.   After settling into your cabin, a delicious four-course dinner is served in one of the opulent restaurants.  Enjoy after-dinner drinks in the Bar car to the accompaniment of the pianist, or retire early to your cabin, which has been transformed to a cosy bedroom.  The next morning you awake to the magnificent scenery of the Swiss Alps as breakfast is served in your cabin.  Spend the morning in the Bar Car chatting to fellow travellers over coffee, before enjoying a leisurely three-course lunch served in another of the beautiful restaurant cars.  While away the afternoon relaxing in your cabin or the Bar Car admiring the spectacular scenery as the train travels through the Italian Dolomites.  Later, afternoon tea is served in your cabin.  All too soon it is time to disembark as the train crosses the Venetian Lagoon and pulls into Santa Lucia station.

Brussels 

Brussels is an interesting new addition to the VSOE collection with journeys to/from Venice, Vienna or Budapest.  In Brussels, tour the historic Grand Place, the Peeing boy, the Opera House, Palais de Justice and if time allows, take a train to the charming town of Bruge.

Brussels to Venice or vice versa

Board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Brussels and settle into your private cabin prior to  dinner.  A delicious four-course dinner will be served in one of the splendid restaurant cars.

After dinner, wander along to the bar for a drink before retiring to your cabin, which has been transformed into a cosy bedroom.  In the morning awake to the magnificent mountain and countryside scenery as breakfast is served in your cabin at a time to suit.  Spend the morning in the Bar Car chatting to fellow travellers over coffee, before enjoying a leisurely three-course lunch served in another of the beautiful restaurant cars.  While away the afternoon relaxing in your cabin or the Bar Car admiring the spectacular scenery as the train travels through the Italian Dolomites.  Later, afternoon tea is served in your cabin.  All too soon it is time to disembark as the train crosses the Venetian Lagoon and pulls into Santa Lucia station.

Venice to Budapest then Brussels or London

Boarding the train in Venice and following settling into your cabin, enjoy a delicious four-course dinner before retiring for the night.  The following morning, take breakfast in your cabin, allowing you to relax and watch the magnificent scenery.  A three-course lunch is served before arriving in Budapest.  Here you are transferred to your chosen hotel for two nights, allowing time to wander this beautiful city, with its wonderful Viennese/Parisian architecture, and stroll beside the Danube at night.  On the morning of the fourth day, join the train and enjoy brunch as the journey continues to Brussels through more spectacular scenery.  A four-course dinner is served before you retire for the night, with a continental breakfast brought to your cabin before a lunch-time arrival in  Brussels.

If you are travelling to London, breakfast is served as you travel towards Paris, with a brunch service before arrival at the Channel.  After crossing the Channel, you will board the British Pullman bound for London, with a service of afternoon tea and English sparkling wine before arrival.

In the morning a leisurely breakfast is served in your cabin before a lunch-time arrival in Brussels.

Depart Budapest 9:11hrs, arrive Brussels 13:30hrs.  Two days/one night

Venice to Vienna and Brussels

Another wonderful combination of cities.  Departing from Venice one has time to settle in prior to a four-course dinner and a drink in the bar before retiring for the night.  Breakfast is served in your cabin before arrival in Vienna, where you are transferred to your chosen hotel.  Enjoy time in this Imperial city, full of famous coffee houses, Gothic architecture, the Scholss Schonbrunn, the Hofburg and many more wonderful sites.  On day four, rejoin the train in time for Afternoon Tea.  Later on a four-course dinner is served, allowing one time to have a drink in the Bar Car before retiring.  A continental breakfast is served in your cabin before an early arrival in Brussels.

Board at Vienna station and relax in your cabin before dressing for a delicious four-course dinner.   The next morning, after Continental breakfast in your cabin, the train arrives in Paris where some passengers depart.  For those travelling on to London, enjoy a brunch as you travel to the Channel.  Here one leaves the VSOE, to cross the Channel and board the British Pullman where a traditional afternoon tea accompanied by a glass of English sparkling wine is served, before arriving at your destination, London Victoria.

Venice to London, via Prague

This fabulous journey takes in three beautiful cities. Leave Venice late afternoon, allowing you an  overnight journey with a four-course dinner, continental breakfast the following morning and a  three-course lunch all as the train travels through picturesque countryside before the afternoon arrival in Prague.  Transfer to your chosen hotel for two nights.  Having had the opportunity to discover this baroque city, board the train for an afternoon departure and afternoon tea.  A four-course dinner is served before you retire for the night, with a continental breakfast brought to your cabin in the morning as you travel towards Paris, with a brunch service before arrival at the Channel.  After crossing the Channel, you will board the British Pullman bound for London, with a service of afternoon tea and English sparkling wine before arrival.

Paris to Istanbul 

Paris – Istanbul

This once a year classic travels via Budapest and Bucharest.  Depart Paris for your overnight journey towards Budapest.  Following a night in  a luxury hotel and a private guided tour of this beautiful city in the morning, one rejoins the train for an overnight journey to Bucharest.  Before arriving there and after breakfast, the train stops in the mountain town of Sinaia  for a visit to beautiful Peles Castle, the summer house of the former King Carol.   Rejoin the train to travel to Bucharest where you spend the next day and night, enjoying guided tours of the city.   The  following day the train crosses  the Danube, travelling  through the magnificent  countryside  of Bulgaria. Enjoy your last night and day on board as the train passes through  the beautiful Thracian Plain to your last stop, fascinating Istanbul.

Istanbul to Venice

This once a year classic travels via Budapest and Bucharest.  Check in at Istanbul’s Sirecki station in the afternoon to board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.  As the train leaves the station you glimpse magnificent views of the Sea of Marmara.  Dinner and overnight on board the train. Continental breakfast is served in your cabin as the train travels through Bulgaria and on into Romania.  After lunch on board, VSOE arrives in Bucharest.  Enjoy an early afternoon tour of the city.  Dinner and overnight in Bucharest at the Athenée Palace Hilton Hotel.  The next morning rejoin the train for the short journey to the mountain town of Sinaia.  On arrival transfer to a local restaurant for lunch and then on to Peles Castle, the summer home of the former King Carol.  Return to the station late afternoon and your journey continues towards Hungary with dinner before retiring to your cabin.  The morning sees our arrival  in Budapest where we enjoy a sightseeing tour of the city, split into two parts by the Danube river.  Lunch is provided before transferring to the Sofitel Hotel for an overnight stay, allowing one time to wander around before  dinner.  Transfer to the station mid morning to rejoin the train, for lunch served as the train crosses into Austria, arriving in Vienna late afternoon, where you disembark for a visit to this beautiful city.  Rejoin the train for dinner and your final night on board.  After breakfast on board, whilst travelling through Italy, arrive in Venice mid morning and disembark into the sparkling city.

Depart Istanbul at 15:00hrs, arriving Venice 10:00hrs.

Prices:   Include all table d’hôte meals and accommodation on board based on two people sharing and hotels where applicable.  Also breakfast and afternoon tea where applicable. An à la carte menu is available for lunch and dinner, and there is a 24-hour cabin service for light snacks and refreshments.  Both are at an additional cost and paid for at the time of ordering. Passengers departing from London on the British Pullman train are served lunch, together with a glass of champagne and half a bottle of wine.  Passengers ending their journey in London are served afternoon tea on board the British Pullman.

Prices are subject to confirmation on booking.

Timings:  all timings are approximate, subject to final confirmation.

Double Cabins:  A private lounge during the day with a banquette sofa, footstool and small table converting to a night configuration with an upper and lower bed.  All Double Cabins are private, and include washbasins with hot and cold water, luxurious towels and toiletries and a 24 hour steward service called by your personal bell.  A lavatory is located in each train carriage.

Cabin Suites:  Combining two private interconnecting cabins to create a private lounge with a banquette sofa, footstool and table in the first cabin, and a separate sleeping cabin with an upper and lower bed.   The amenities are as for the double cabin.    Cabin Suites can either be made up into a lounge and separate sleeping cabin, or two separate single sleeping cabins.

Dress code:  Smart casual for the day, and smart evening wear.
