Fay says, "The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express plies an original route of the legendary train; panache, allure, continental charm, a heady mix of pre-war glamour and style deliver one of the world's top train journeys."
About the Train
The Venice Simplon-Orient Express train is a work of art in itself - a true Art Deco icon that is famous the world over.
Romance, adventure and the mystery of the past are all intimately bound up in journeys that visit some of the most alluring continental cites. Few trains still exist from a more gracious, elegant age of travel. No other train is as lovingly maintained as this worthy inheritor of the legend that is 'Orient Express'.
Delightful air-conditioned vintage cabins, delicious afternoon teas and exquisite dining with lively on-board entertainment make a journey aboard this icon, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, one of the world's finest travel experiences.
The General Manager of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, Pascal Deyrolle, says, "“Dinner, much like the 1920s, is theater. People come here for the atmosphere—you have afternoon tea, dress for dinner and enjoy a postprandial drink in the bar car. It’s very similar to the aristocratic life of the old days.”
Video - Chanel and the Venice Simplon Orient Express - capturing the romance perfectly.
Venice Simplon-Orient Express Cabins
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express twin cabins convert in moments from daytime seating to a comfortable bedroom, all performed by stewards whilst passengers enjoy a gourmet dinner in the restaurant car. A beautiful mosaic-tiled lavatory is located in each carriage.
Twin Cabin - During the day each Cabin is configured as a lounge with a banquette sofa, footstool, small table and an original washbasin cabinet with hot and cold water. At night it becomes a cosy bedroom with an upper and lower bed, complete with soft towels and crisp linen. Bathrobes, slippers and luxury travel collection by Temple Spa are provided.
Cabin Suite - A Cabin Suite consists of two interconnecting Double Cabins. You can choose between single beds or keep one cabin as a lounge, with upper and lower beds in the other.
New in 2018 – Grand Suite - The Grand Suite features a private bathroom with shower. There is a double bed and a living area, offering ultimate style and comfort.
The Art Nouveau interior of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express bar car creates a wonderful evocative atmosphere, enhanced by the baby grand piano. The large windows allow one to absorb the beautiful vistas. Enjoy a variety of refreshments until late into the evening.
Dining on board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is an unforgettable delight. All dishes are freshly prepared on the train by skilled French chefs, with the finest supplies taken onboard during the train's journey. Lunch, dinner and brunch are served by waiters in one of the three individually styled Restaurant Cars: Cote d'Azur, Etoile du Nord or L' Oriental. Breakfast and afternoon tea are served to passengers in the comfort of their cabins.
This Lalique Car is divided into several sections, one of which is the Champagne bar, which is self-explanatory. The other section is laid up with a variety of board games. Both sections allow one to see the delights of the passing scenery whilst enjoying Champagne, whether or not one plays the games.
The onboard boutique is located at the rear of the Lalique car. What better way to remember this memorable journey, than to enjoy a gift from the Collection Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.
Grand Suite Venice Simplon-Orient-Express
Newly launched, the Grand Suite Venice Simplon-Orient-Express creates new levels of luxury accommodation aboard the historic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.
All the three Grand Suites feature a private bathroom with showers. There is a double bed and a living area, offering style and comfort. Unlimited Champagne and transfers within a 20 mile radius are included. Private in-suite dining gives one the ultimate privacy.
The Venice Simplon-Orient Express Grand Suites are named after three of the romantic cities to which the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express travels - Paris, Venice and Istanbul. Interior designs reflect the spirit of each city while staying true to the original 1920s art-deco.
European cuisine on the Venice Simplon-Orient Express is freshly prepared in the train's kitchen. Fresh ingredients are taken on board at stops along the route. The set-menus are an inclusive part of your trip. Drinks and à la carte options are also available at an additional charge. Chefs will be delighted to cater for any specific dietary requirements, provided a detailed request is made at the time of booking.

Orient-Express A Personal Journey
In May 1977, SNCF French national railways announced they were taking the Orient- Express, the world's most fabled train, out of service. The public outcry which followed caught the attention of Jim Sherwood.
The last remaining four carriages, which had featured in the film Murder on the Orient-Express, were auctioned by Sotheby's in Monte Carlo, and Sherwood bought two of them. He then set out on a trip across Europe to track down enough original 1920s carriages, with their exquisite Art Deco marquetry and Lalique glass, to make a full train.
In 1982, the lovingly-restored Venice Simplon-Orient Express set off from Victoria Station for Venice, almost exactly 100 years after it had first carried passengers on their exotic and mysterious journeys across the continent.
The re-launch of the Orient-Express attracted so much attention that Sherwood used the name for the luxury hotel company he went on the create. Orient-Express Hotels owned some of the great hotels of the world, all personally bought by Sherwood. He also oversaw the development of the Eastern & Oriental Express and the Hiram Bingham. The purchase and restoration of each train and grand hotel has its own extraordinary story behind it, which is wittily and compellingly told.
Belmond carries the legacy forward with its grand hotel, luxury river boat and iconic luxury trains collection, including the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Here is information (10 March 2014) about Belmond as the new brand identity for Orient-Express Hotels Ltd. (10 March 2014).
