18 September 2022: Here is an update from Guillaume de Saint Lager, VP Orient Express ACCOR:
This week we have started testing the Orient Express La Dolce Vita. The train is not yet ready of course, but we had the chance to take its routes and taste its experiences.
An unforgettable three-day trip, like a foretaste: Rome - Venice - Portofino - Rome. Fabulous destinations.
It's amazing what treasures Italy has to offer: from Rome, after a lunch on board under the scenery of Tuscany, we arrived in Venice to discover some hidden palaces, a candlelit dinner on the Grand Canal and the discovery of San Marco cathedral at midnight.
Just enough time to get back to the train in a Riva boat to leave in the night.
When we woke up, we opened our eyes on the sublime Portofino, jewel of the Mediterranean sea.
Its colourful facades, its shimmering sea and unforgettable viewpoints. A walk in the narrow streets, a Franciacorta on a terrace, a lunch in one of the most beautiful restaurants of the seaside village, and here we go back on the train a few hours later.
A last dinner on the train and Rome is waiting for you when you wake up.
This is Orient Express La Dolce Vita: taking the time to discover the wonders of Italy, in a very authentic, elegant, timeless way.
We look forward to sharing this magic with you soon !
The rates and dates for these planned 2024 or 2025 Istanbul journeys are expected to be announced during 2023.

Six trains will embark through several iconic itineraries across 14 regions and beyond, including three international destinations from Rome to Paris, Istanbul and Split.
Orient Express La Dolce Vita pays tribute to 'La Dolce Vita'
The concept for the new Orient Express La Dolce Vita trains pay tribute to “La Dolce Vita”, a historical period of glamour, joie de vivre and artistic fervour in Italy during the 1960s.
With support from Accor, La Dolce Vita train’s official hospitality partner, and thanks to the partnership with Trenitalia and Fondazione FS Italiane, the journey invites passengers to travel through more than 16,000 km of workable railway lines - 7,000 km of which are not electrified and are vestiges of Italy’s storied history.
The Orient Express La Dolce Vita offers a new way of experiencing the country: an environmentally-friendly adventure where forgotten roads are explored, hidden treasures discovered and where architectural triumphs take centre stage.
Orient Express La Dolce Vita Contemporary Design
Designed by Dimorestudio, the global architectural and design studio founded by Emiliano Salci and Britt Moran in 2003, the Orient Express La Dolce Vita train embodies the Italian art of living and all its beautiful traditions with a more contemporary spirit of travel.
The train’s sumptuous décor will adorn 12 Deluxe cabins, 18 Suites, and one Honour Suite and restaurant, all boldly celebrating the craftsmanship, design and creativity of the 1960s and 1970s.
Orient Express La Dolce Vita Dining & Hospitality

Orient Express La Dolce Vita Management Quotes
Paolo Barletta, CEO of Arsenale S.p.A explains: “It is a great honour and privilege to work with Orient Express, one of the most prestigious luxury brands in the world. This agreement marks a new stage for our La Dolce Vita trains – a mark of trust and esteem that enriches the Italian tourist offer. We will take travelers to discover new itineraries, to unique places where they will be able to live a ‘Made In Italy’ experience with a warmth entirely our own. The journey itself becomes the destination and Italy has never been so close and sensational.”
Sébastien Bazin, Chairman and CEO Accor, expands: “At Accor, we consider it an immense privilege to re-launch the historic Orient Express brand for passionate and discerning travelers. These trains offer a new vision of luxury travel that is beyond our imagination. Our association with Arsenale Group has opened up new horizons in perfect harmony with the heritage and philosophy of Orient Express, and marks our constant desire to keep moving forward.”
Stephen Alden, CEO Raffles and Orient Express, Accor says: “It is thrilling to be bringing the refined nomadic spirit of Orient Express back to life for a new generation of travellers. The original train route was innovative in the way it paradoxically brought cultures together – the Occident with the Orient, history with modernity. As artisans of travel, we wish to revive this old-world, awe-inspiring 'journey to elsewhere’ and reconcile certain paradoxes: a journey and a destination, astonishment and inspiration, movement and contemplation. Against the backdrop of breathtaking panoramas and a unique blend of cultures, we are convinced that travelers will have unforgettable experiences in Italy with Orient Express La Dolce Vita.”
Orient Express La Dolce Vita Luxury Train Club News
Architect and interior designer Aline Asmar d’Amman and her studio Culture in Architecture will design and decorate the space.
Venice, once the gateway to Constantinople and a mythical stop on the legendary Orient Express train – that opened its doors in 1919 with the completion of the Simplon tunnel linking Switzerland to Italy – will be the home of the Orient Express hotel, set to open in early 2024.
Located just ten minutes from Venice’s Santa Lucia train station, next to the Cannaregio shopping district, and rooted in the origins of the City of the Doges, the Palazzo Donà Giovannelli is a treasured palace built in 1400 by architect Filippo Calendario, known for Venice’s famed Doge’s Palace. Former home of the Duke of Urbino, a patron of the arts, it has been renovated twice, notably in 1800 by architect Gian Battista Meduna. At one time a pinacotheque which housed the painting La Tempesta by Giorgione, it was successively owned by the Donà and Giovannelli families.
An ode to the heritage of Venice, inspired by all of the cultures and eras that are forever a part of its history, the Orient Express Venice Hotel will be home to 45 rooms and suites, all overlooking the gardens and canals of Venice. The hotel bar will be located in the former piano nobile ballroom on the main floor of the building. A world-class restaurant will introduce guests to the flavours of Italian gastronomy. Select terraces hidden on the hotel’s rooftops will offer the most beautiful views of the wonders of the Serenissima.
As soon as the hotel opens, passengers on the Orient Express La Dolce Vita train will be able to disembark directly at the Venice Santa Lucia Station and reach the Orient Express Venice Hotel by foot or by boat.
Orient Express La Minerva Hotel, Rome
Orient Express has chosen architect and designer Hugo Toro to adorn the new Orient Express La Minerva, Rome.
“The Orient Express La Dolce Vita train offers travellers the opportunity to share in the legend and the art of living of Orient Express. Guests are invited on a unique journey that follows the path of the mythical routes of the former Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits, having the chance to discover the first Orient Express hotel in Rome.”
“Orient Express has found its ideal stopover in Rome,” says Hugo Toro, adding: “It is a symbolic city that evokes emotion and amazement in everyone who visits. It is a place that feels like magic, imprinted by marks of history and with a rich palette of textures, materials and colours. All of this is in perfect harmony with the mysterious and travel-focused identity of Orient Express.”
“The former Palazzo Fonseca is a sumptuous palace from the 17th century, with a huge and majestic facade", Toro explains, adding: “It is a heritage site still adorned with Roman columns, sculptures by Rinaldi Rinaldo, a disciple of Canova, and the fascinating Minerva. It is a secret spot where you can go to think and admire the wonders of the Sant’Ivo dome, the roof of the Quirinal Palace and the Pantheon from its panoramic terrace.”
