About the Great Southern

Great Southern will operate special departures between 6 December 2019 and 27 January 2020, embracing the wonders of Australia’s south-east corner.

With a capacity of around 214 guests per departure, this marks a new chapter in Australian rail travel.

All Great Southern departures offer the choice of Platinum and Gold Service accommodation, with both options inclusive of dining, on board beverages and Off Train Experiences.


Specific details of the accommodation are yet to be released. The cabins will be similar to the following.


Great Southern Platinum Suite Luxury Train Club

Each Platinum cabin has a double bed or twin beds, an en suite bathroom and full room service. By day - a private lounge with a moveable table, 2 ottomans and a writing desk next to the window. By night - the cabin converts to either a double or twin beds. There are large panoramic windows and an additional interior window, allowing views on both sides of the train. The cabin is 3.65m x 2.1m, including en suite bathroom.

Included: Cabin steward service. Generous luggage limit (3 x 25kg). Off-train excursions. All on-board meals including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast served in your cabin on request. Turn-down service with chocolates. Wide choice of wines, beers, spirits, cocktails, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Chauffeur driven transfers to and from your hotel to the station (up to 50kms).

Gold Twin

Great Southern Gold Twin Luxury Train Club

By day, Gold Twin Berth Sleeper Cabins are a comfortable lounge, converting to an upper and lower sleeping berth at night. Steward service from the hospitality attendant includes fresh sheets, bath towels, pillows, doonas and complimentary toiletries. Twin Berth Sleeper Cabins have private en suite facilities with a hide-away compact toilet, wash basin and shower.

Gold Single

Single Berth Sleeper Cabins feature a comfortable lounge chair and foot rest by day and a single level sleeping berth by night. Cabins are fitted with a wash basin. Showers and toilets are located at either end of the Gold Service carriage.

Both Gold Twin & Gold Single include: Restaurant Car dining, with freshly prepared meals and waiter service. Lounge Car for relaxation and refreshments. In-cabin music and detailed journey commentary available from your cabin sound system. Complimentary tea and coffee available during your journey.

Brisbane to Adelaide

The Twelve Apostles Great Southern Luxury Train Club

3 nights, 4 days
Departing Mondays, the Brisbane-Adelaide journey features a beachside dining experience on the Northern New South Wales Coast, as well as time spent in the stunning Hunter Valley wine region and at the incredible Twelve Apostles.

Day one - Brisbane and Northern New South Wales Coast. As the sun dips into the horizon, dine to the sounds of the waves on the New South Wales coast. This comprises 90kms of sandy beaches and some of the best surfing in the world. (L,D)

Day two - Hunter Valley and surrounds. The train takes one past the Semillon and Shiraz wineries with time to meander through the Hunter Valley vineyards. Choose between a curated cellar door tour, a sand dunes adventure and Nelson Bay dolphin cruise or a day trip exploring Newcastle. (B,L,D)

Day three - regional Victoria and the Twelve Apostles. Embrace the pastoral perfection of regional Victoria and its paddock-to-plate dining ethos. Ascend the dramatic cliff faces along which the famous Great Ocean Road passes and marvel at the Twelve Apostles – a majestic collection of crumbling pillars rising from the Southern Ocean. Spend a day in Melbourne, enjoying lunch with a view from the top of Eureka Tower and navigating the city’s famous laneways and the National Gallery of Victoria. Or take a coach tour to the stunning 12 Apostles for epic views of the Southern Ocean and Loch Ard Gorge. (B,L,D)

Day four - Adelaide. this morning you are greeted by the beautiful green fields and pastoral lands of South Australia. After breakfast the Great Southern rolls into Adelaide. Here, you may wish to extend your stay with trips to the Barossa Valley or Kangaroo Island topping the to-do list. (B)

Adelaide to Brisbane

Great Southern Luxury Train Club

Departing Fridays, the Adelaide-Brisbane journey includes touring in The Grampians, Canberra and a special beachside dining experience on the Northern New South Wales Coast.

Day one - The Grampians. Explore one of Australia’s most stunning wilderness regions, boasting sandstone mountains, wildflowers, waterfalls and native fauna such as echidnas and wallabies. (L,D)

Day two - Canberra. While the jewel in Canberra’s crown is Parliament House, it is also home to landmarks such as the National Portrait Gallery, Australian War Memorial and the National Arboretum. There are plenty of opportunities to delve into this city’s art, history and culinary culture. (B,L,D)

Day three - Northern New South Wales Coast and Brisbane. Enjoy brunch with stunning seaside views on the northern NSW coast - a stone’s throw from Coffs Harbour. (B/L)

Special Departure: Heritage Highlights Journey

3 nights, 4 days

10 January 2020. For one journey only, the Great Southern departing Adelaide on 10 January 2020 will extend to three nights and four days. After taking in the picturesque Grampians, guests will have the opportunity to don their blue suede shoes at the annual Parkes Elvis Festival or alternatively, explore Orange, the birthplace of legendary Australian poet, Banjo Patterson. The Great Southern then stops in the quaint gold-mining town of Gulgong, travelling through scenic regional New South Wales en route to Brisbane.

This departure is priced as all other Great Southern journeys.

General Information

Luggage. Due to cabin space constraints, it is recommended guests take an 'overnight bag' containing all requirements for their journey with them in their cabin and check-in all other luggage. Each guest is permitted to check-in a maximum 40kg luggage free of charge (2 items not exceeding 20kg each). Note: Checked-in luggage cannot be accessed during the journey. Additional luggage may be checked in as excess luggage at a cost of $50.00 per item, payable direct to the train.

Included. The complimentary inclusions are noted after each description of the cabin. They are payable direct to the train.

Travel Documents. Travel documents are sent by email which outline when and where to board as well as luggage arrangements. The document is an itinerary which represents the tickets for the train and any other arrangements. A pre-departure email is issued 7 days prior to travel that contains practical information for the upcoming journey. All times are local time and may be subject to change. Guests must be at the terminal at least one hour before train departs.

Unforeseen events/changes: itineraries, routes and times may change at any time for reasons outside the control of the train company. Every effort will be made by train staff to minimise any impact; the Luxury Train Club cannot accept any responsibility for any changes. The Club aims to keep itineraries as up to date as possible.

Dress Code. The dress code on board is a smart casual dress.
