New Grand Suites announced for Venice Simplon-Orient-Express
A new departure in time – Grand Suites of Elegance
13 June 2017: Belmond has announced three new private ‘Grand Suites’ in the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. The Grand Suite Venice Simplon-Orient-Express class will be launched in March 2018.
Grand Suite Venice Simplon-Orient-Express creates new levels of luxury accommodation aboard the historic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express.
All the three Grand Suites feature a private bathroom with shower. There is a double bed and a living area, offering ultimate style and comfort. The Grand Suites are named after three of the romantic cities to which the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express travels - Paris, Venice and Istanbul. Interior designs reflect the spirit of each city while staying true to the original 1920s art-deco.
Sleeping car type S1 number 3425 is the Grand Suites carriage. It was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company in 1929.
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express plies an original route of the legendary train; panache, allure, continental charm, a heady mix of pre-war glamour and style deliver one of the world's top train journeys.
The elegant new suites transport guests back to the golden era of travel. Travel by train pioneered the way for travellers to cross international borders. Authentic interior designs evoke the nostalgia and glamour of a bygone era. This is complemented with spacious interiors and en-suite bathrooms.
“This is a one of a kind restoration project; we are going to completely transform the individual classic cabins into three exceptional suites. This is such an exciting project (allowing us to) offer guests spacious accommodation with private bathrooms and showers. The designs are sensitive to the original history of the carriages and each cabin is inspired by the city it represents,” comments Gary Franklin, Managing Director, Belmond Trains & Cruises.
The unique design project for the Grand Suite Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is by London-based Wimberly Interiors.
“It was extremely important when developing the design concept that we embraced the unique story and history of the brand. To capture the epitome of classic luxury travel that the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express exudes, we focused on moments within each city, inspiring visual cues and the overall Belmond guest experience. It was an exciting challenge to use this inspiration to recreate the essence of art deco glamour in an elegant and timeless design.” Rachel Johnson, Vice President and Studio Director, Wimberly Interiors
Cities of Style
The spirit of each city is brought to life with thoughtful design touches in each Grand Suite Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. The opulence and romance of Istanbul is celebrated with hand-carved timber and embossed leather. The haute couture and gastronomic excellence of Paris is referenced with chic and elegant furnishings. The grandeur of Venice is interwoven with silk fabrics and hues of silver and grey; hand-crafted Venetian glass adorns the baroque style furnishings.
The Suite Life
Guests travelling in the Paris, Venice and Istanbul Grand Suites have private transfers to and from the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. They will have a personal cabin steward for all their on-board services. Unlimited champagne is included. It is possible to order private in-suite dining. Extra touches include bespoke amenities and a complimentary art-deco bathrobe.
