Saturday: San Sebastián, Villasana de Mena.

San Sebastián is a vibrant city that nestles in a shell-shaped bay where the 'Comb of the Wind', the jaw-dropping iron sculptures of Eduardo Chillida cast huge, bold shapes from the water's edge of the Bay of Biscay. With its many restaurants, beautiful beaches and an interesting Old Quarter full of historical buildings, it is certainly worth exploring.

Upon arrival at the hotel, luggage is taken away by the Train staff and one joins the welcome reception, followed by lunch. Afterwards, there is a tour of this vibrant city, before taking the private road coach to Bilbao to board El Transcantabrico Gran Lujo. On being welcomed on board, you are shown to your Gran Lujo deluxe suite. Dinner is served whilst the train travels to Villasana de Mena. Overnight on board in Villasana de Mena.

The train arrives in Bilbao during breakfast. There is a city tour and tickets to the Guggenheim Museum. Back on the train, lunch is served on the way to Santander, the capital of Cantabria, where there is a tour of the city, considered to be one of the most beautiful in Spain. Divided in two by the Magdalene Peninsula, on one side are magnificent beaches, the imposing casino and fine English-looking homes, whilst on the other, the Bay of Santander, with the port, cathedral and the Paseo Pereda. Free time before dinner. Overnight in Santander.

Enjoy lunch and some free time in the town of Potes which lies within four valleys.
