DAY 1 - Arrival Lima, Overnight at the Lima Airport Hotel

Overnight at the 4 Star Costa del Sol Wyndham Hotel, Lima Airport

DAY 2 - Flight to Cusco, Tour of Cusco, Overnight at Belmond El Monasterio Hotel

Full Day Private Sacred Valley Tour, including Lunch (B, L); Full day excursion to the Sacred Valley, Including Ollantaytambo Ruins, lunch at Urubamba, Maras, Moray Ruins and the Salt Mines (Private Service); Overnight at Belmond El Monasterio Hotel – Cusco.

Built in huge circular terraces, it is unclear exactly what the purpose of Moray was to the Incas, but it is assumed that it was built for farming purposes. Moray is a fantastic place to explore and walk down to the core of the circular terraces, or take a picture from atop surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. A trip to Moray is also a great opportunity to explore the stunning salt flats of Maras, a surprisingly unexplored gem of the Sacred Valley. Local workers at the mine will demonstrate the process of extracting salt.

Towards the eastern end of the Sacred Valley is the famous ruin of Ollantaytambo. This impressive and large ruin was one of the last strong holds for the Incas after the invasion of the Spanish nearly 500 years ago. Built into the mountain side and ascending rapidly to the peak of the ruins, Ollantaytambo was almost certainly built as a fortress to protect the eastern end of the Sacred Valley.

DAY 4 - Hiram Bingham Train to Machu Picchu, Private Tour of Machu Picchu, Overnight near Machu Picchu (B, BR, D)

Breakfast at hotel; Private transfer from Cusco Hotel – Poroy Train Station; Belmond Hiram Bingham includes brunch; Shuttle bus to Machu Picchu (30 mins); 2 1/2 Hours guided tour of UNESCO World Heritage Site – Machu Picchu, including: Caretakers Hut, Temple of the Sun, the Royal Tomb, Three Windowed Temple, Intihuatana / Solar Clock, and the quarry; Overnight at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge – Machu Picchu; Dinner at your hotel.

Machu Picchu was revealed to the world, when the famous historian, explorer and archeologist Hiram Bingham stumbled upon the site whilst on an expedition in 1911. Initially the importance of the citadel was over looked, and only when he returned over a year later the true significance was realized.

Perched high up on the edge of a cliff set deep in the high jungle of Southern Peru, Machu Picchu fabled ‘The Lost City of the Incas’ is truly a first class destination for many world travelers. Invisible from the Urubamba Valley below, Machu Picchu lay dormant for more than 4 centuries, nestled neatly at 2,800m (4,000 feet) above sea level. It was considered to have been abandoned by the Incas at the time of the Spanish invasion, and became something of folklore and mystery, until it was re-discovered hidden and preserved in the dense jungle of Vilcabamba.

DAY 5 - Re-visit Machu Picchu, Machu Picchu Mountain Trek, Hiram Bingham Train to Poroy (B, L)

DAY 6 - Free Day in Cusco (B)

Breakfast at hotel; Free day to rest and relax in Cusco; Overnight at Belmond El Monasterio Hotel – Cusco We recommend:

- a visit to La Casa Concha Museum (Santa Catalina Ancha) dedicated to the re-discovery of Machu Picchu and Hiram Bingham. Exhibits many of the artifacts returned by Yale University over the last 3 years.

- Korikancha, once the greatest temple in all of the Inca Empire. Ancient chronicles describe Korikancha as having a garden of golden plants with leaves of beaten gold and stems of silver, solid gold corn cobs and twenty life-sized llamas with herders. In the 16th century the Spanish built the Church and Convent of Santo Domingo on top of the temple. Open daily. Entrance is S/. 10 (US$ 3.50) per person.

- The ´Bean to Bar' workshop at the Choco Museum in Cusco is a great way to spend a couple of hours. If you fancy something totally different from visiting ruins, head over to the museum and sign up for a 2 hours class. There are classes at 11am, 2pm and 4pm daily. Price 60 Soles per person. Address: Calle Garcilaso 210 (2nd floor). http://www.chocomuseo.com/english/our-locations/cu...

- Limo - Classy restaurant located above McDonalds on Cusco's main square. This restaurant offers traditional and international cuisine, and is also the best place to eat ceviche and sea-food in the town (Portal de Carnes 236, Piso 2, Plaza de Armas. Tel: 240 668).

Lake Titicaca is a sacred place among indigenous Andean peoples. In touch with the spirit of Mama Qota, or Sacred Mother, they believe that powerful spirits live in the lake's depths. According to Andean legend, Lake Titicaca was the birthplace of civilization. Viracocha, the creator deity, lightened a dark world by having the sun, moon, and stars rise from the lake to occupy their places in the sky.

The Uros islands have a unique civilization of people living on them – there are no trees, and all of their houses and boats, etc. are made of knitted reeds. It is alleged the inhabitants fled from the mainland to escape the Inca in the 13th Century and found refuge on these floating islands; in the middle of the largest navigable lake in the world and South America’s largest freshwater lake.

Around 1500 Quechua-speaking Indians continue to live on the remote Island of Taquile. The island, seven kilometres long, is devoid of roads and vehicles, and its terraced hills are scattered with pre-Inca ruins. The island itself is almost a living museum where the inhabitants wear traditional dress and are famed for their weaving and knitwear. Knitting on the island is primarily a man´s job!

Lima known locally as ‘The City of the Kings’ is the capital of Peru, and has a rich a colorful history. Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, it was once the most powerful and important trading posts in the continent. The city fell into decline when the Spanish created a rival vice regency in Rio de la Plata (River of the Silver), which later became supremely rich though the mining of Silver.

Nowadays, only the colonial buildings in the center remain as a reminder to riches of the past. Modern day Lima has become a sprawling metropolis of extreme wealth and poverty. Shanty towns on the outskirts of the city are in extreme contrast to the wealthier inner suburbs of Barranco and Miraflores, where locals drive around in expensive cars and dine in fine restaurants.
