Rovos Pullman GoldPullman Gold suites are on long Rovos journeys from 1 January 2021.
Regular Pullman Suites continue to be used on the short Rovos journeys. About Rovos Pride of AfricaRovos Rail has a style all its own with train tours that have a blend of earthy African safari and traditional luxury. The Pride of Africa trains from Rovos Rail provide very much more than mere rail transportation - from these transports of delight one can experience the richness of southern Africa, with north and southbound routes between Pretoria and Cape Town as well as a range of spectacular journeys to the east and to the west. The trains combine the golden age of rail travel with modern conveniences, creating an unforgettable extravagant elegance of a bygone era. Rovos Pullman Gold versus Rovos PullmanA few comparisons with the regular Pullman. The Rovos Pullman Gold suites are 600mm longer than Pullman, as is the length of the overhead luggage rack. This extra length allows the same lengthwise beds as the Deluxe Suite. On arrival, the bed layout will be two twin beds; double bed can be requested once on-board. When the Double is made up in the regular Pullman, there is 600mm to the bathroom wall; in the new Rovos Pullman Gold, it is 800mm. Rovos Pullman Gold does not have bunk beds. The upper bunk in regular Pullman is 600mm wide; Pullman Gold Twin beds are 750mm. Twin beds allow the extra space between the beds to be used. The bed against the wall becomes a day couch using pillows and scatter cushions. The writing table which flips up is to be used by a guest sitting on the end of the bed. Rovos Pullman Gold hanging cupboard and drawers are 50% larger than in regular Pullman. The space below the beds for linen or luggage has doubled. One window of the two in the suite is solid and tinted and, being nearest the pillow, sealed to stop draughts and track noise. The Rovos Pullman Gold window wall has been insulated which, when combined with the solid window and additional insulation below the floorboards, has made the Pullman Gold quieter and easier for temperature control.
