Summary Itinerary, Namibia Rovos Upgrade 2019

Across the Namib Desert to Etosha National Park. Visit Windhoek. Short flight to Sossusvlei, overnight with bush drive. Travel south through untamed Kalahari Desert.Visit Garas Park with Quiver Tree Forest, spectacular Fish River Canyon, Upington. Travel through Great Karoo to Kimberley for Big Hole & Diamond Museum. Travel through Highveld and gold fields to Pretoria.

DAY 1: 12h00 Depart Walvis Bay and enjoy lunch as the train leaves the Atlantic and traverses the Namib Desert to Etosha.

DAY 2: 09h30 Transfer to a lodge in the Etosha National Park for lunch, a game drive and overnight.

DAY 3: 06h00 Early morning game drive in the Etosha National Park. 13h00 Return to the train and travel south to Windhoek.

DAY 4: 08h00 Arrive in Windhoek for a city tour. 11h00 Depart in light aircraft for 1-hour flight to Sossusvlei for lunch, desert drive, bush dinner and overnight.

DAY 5: 06h00 Sossusvlei drive with breakfast in the vlei. 12h00 Depart Sossusvlei for 1-hour flight to Windhoek. 14h00 Depart Windhoek. Travel south through the Kalahari Desert.

DAY 6: 08h00 Visit Garas Park (Quiver Tree Forest/Giant’s Playground). Depart for Holoog. 15h00 One-hour transfer to visit the Fish River Canyon. 19h30 Dinner on board. Travel along the southern reaches of the Kalahari Basin to the South African border.

DAY 7: 08h00 Optional two-hour walking tour of Upington. Day at leisure as the train travels into the Great Karoo.

DAY 8: 14h30 Arrive Kimberley for Big Hole and Diamond Museum. 16h00 Depart Kimberley and travel north into the Highveld

DAY 9: 07h00 Enjoy breakfast as the train travels the goldfields. 12h00 Arrive at journey’s end at Rovos Rail Station, Pretoria.

Detailed Itinerary, Rovos Namibia Upgrade 2019

DAY 1 - The Pride of Africa departs from Walvis Bay. Guests may freshen up in their suites before joining fellow travellers in the lounge car or observation car at the rear of the train. Lunch is served in the dining cars, The train travels east across the Namib Desert. Tea in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars. The train travels northeast to Etosha. Overnight on board.

DAY 2 - Please pack a small overnight bag for the stay in Etosha. Tog bags have been placed in your suite for your convenience. See below what is included. Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure at 09:30. Transfer from Otjiwarongo Station to Mokuti Lodge in the Etosha National Park. Check in at Mokuti Lodge and enjoy lunch in the restaurant. Afternoon game drive (approximately 3 hours). Dinner at the lodge and overnight.

DAY 3 - An early wake-up call with tea and coffee at 06:30. Please ensure your overnight bag is ready to be collected from your suite by 07:00 and proceed to checkout by 10:45. Your bag will be loaded into the vehicles. Enjoy a game drive in the Etosha National Park. Return to the lodge for breakfast and check-out. Meet in the foyer to check-out and transfer to the train at Otjiwarongo Station. Rejoin the train at Otjiwarongo. Enjoy lunch on board as the train departs. Tea in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight on board.

DAY 4 - Please pack a small overnight bag for the stay in Sossusvlei. See below for what is included. Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure at 09:00. Disembark at Windhoek Station. Visit the train museum followed by a city tour en route to the airport. Depart in a light aircraft for a one-hour flight to Sossusvlei. After check-in, enjoy lunch at the restaurant. Afternoon desert drive and a bush dinner after sunset. Overnight at the lodge.

DAY 5 - An early wake-up call with tea and coffee at 05:30. Please ensure your overnight bag is ready to be collected from your suite by 06:00. It will be stored in the baggage area at the lodge before being loaded into the aircraft. Enjoy a desert drive with breakfast in the vlei. Return to the lodge to use the facilities, check-out and transfer to the airstrip. Depart Sossusvlei in a light aircraft for the one-hour flight to Windhoek to rejoin the train. Lunch is served in the dining cars. The train travels south through the Kalahari Desert. Tea in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars. Overnight on board.

DAY 6 - Please wear comfortable non-slip walking shoes for the excursions today. Please ensure the Train Manager or Gift Shop Hostess is in possession of your passport. Breakfast is served in the dining cars until departure at 08:00. Disembark the train for a visit to Garas Park. Lunch is served in the dining cars. Arrive in Holoog. Disembark and board vehicles for the one-hour drive to the Fish River Canyon. Return to the train. Depart Holoog. Travel east along the southern reaches of the Kalahari Basin. Dinner is served in the dining cars en route to the border. Arrive in Ariumsvlei and Nakop for immigration formalities.

DAY 7 - Please wear comfortable non-slip walking shoes for the excursion today. Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10:00. Disembark the train for an optional two-hour walking tour of Upington. Lunch is served in the dining cars. The train travels the semi-desert of the Great Karoo. Tea in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars. The train travels towards De Aar, an important railway junction.

DAY 8 - Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10:00. Lunch is served in the dining cars. The train travels in a northerly direction through Graspan. Arrive Kimberley. Disembark for a tour of the city, Diamond Mine Museum and the Big Hole. Depart Kimberley. Travel through the Karoo. A shallow lake appears on the left-hand side of the train where, on most occasions, there are spectacular flocks of Lesser Flamingos (approximately 23 000). Tea in the lounge car and observation car at the rear of the train. Dinner is served in the dining cars. The train travels across the Northern Cape and continues its climb to Pretoria in the Gauteng province.

DAY 9 - Please ensure your luggage is ready for collection at 11:45 and that you are in the possession of your passport. Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10:00. The train continues to travel northeast through the goldfields of the Witwatersrand via Krugersdorp, Germiston and Johannesburg. Arrive at journey’s end at the gracious Rovos Rail Station in Capital Park, Pretoria.

General Information Namibia Rovos Upgrade 2019

Please dress accordingly for game drives: mornings can be cool then warm up considerably; afternoons can be warm then cool down considerably. Warm clothing, hats and sun protection are advised (season dependent). Rain capes are available.

Excursions may be changed according to schedule achieved. Times are approximate and cannot be guaranteed.

The price includes: Accommodation; all meals; all alcoholic and other beverages; 24-hour full room service and bar facilities; limited laundry service; guided excursions (where applicable); entrance fees as per itinerary and government tax.

Included in off-train accommodation: Accommodation; meals; water and a limited wine selection during lunch and dinner.

The price excludes: pre/post-tour accommodation, flights and transfers; staff gratuities; French Champagne; memorabilia purchases.
