About the Luxury Safari ClubThe Luxury Safari Club takes its inspiration from ecoTravel Africa. ecoTravel Africa was established by Joanna French for true ecotourism experience in Africa. Joanna felt that is has been too easy to claim to be eco-friendly without meaningful credentials. Eco-travel is more than staying in eco-friendly hotels. ecoTravel Africa and the Luxury Safari Club promotes travel that follows the International EcoTourism Society's definition of ecotourism: 'responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people'. As well as providing sensational safari holidays, the Luxury Safari Club builds tailor-made itineraries. These can be for self drive, guided or small group travel. Our members are sure they are travelling responsibly while benefiting the environment and the communities they visit. Environmental education is at the core of the ecoTravel Africa philosophy. This is shared by the Luxury Safari Club. You should develop an understanding of the country you are visiting before you travel; you should also appreciate the key conservation and development issues. The Luxury Safari Club will provide an itinerary with detailed information about how places and accommodation are having a positive environmental benefit. Often, ongoing conservation work occurs behind the scenes. Sometimes, however, a traveller may become more involved. Sometimes a traveller may become more involved. This can be built into your itinerary. Joanna French curates the Luxury Safari Club. No holiday is included without her authority. She has travelled extensively, spending much time in Africa. Joanna is a conservation scientist with a background in working with and running conservation & development projects around the world. Joanna's principal research interests are in ecotourism and its role in conservation and development. Her Masters was about how western lowland gorilla ecotourism can be a viable tool for conservation. She has particular experience of many primate tourism projects across East and Central Africa. Her postgraduate studies were in MSc Conservation Science at Imperial College London. She is the Managing Director of ecoTravel Africa. Previously she was the Overseas Operations Manager for Frontier / Society for Environmental Exploration. Joanna is a member of the International Ecotourism Society. She is much-travelled: Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Central Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa, Oman, Europe and Central America.
