The Deccan Odyssey is the air-conditioned luxury Indian train that operates in the State of Maharashtra.  The plush interiors are evocative of a bygone era, but with a  modern twist, creating an extraordinary luxury that forms an unforgettable memory.

Itinerary

The 7-night / 8-day journey  covers UNESCO world heritage sites, historical and cultural visits as well as beaches.  The route is Mumbai – Sindhudurg – Tarkarli – Goa – Kolhapur – Daulatabad – Tadoba – Ajanta – Nashik – Mumbai, and some of the major attractions include:

• The Ajanta Caves:  Home of the world’s oldest frescoes.
• Ellora:  An extraordinary complex of temples carved from a single basalt cliff.
• Shilpa Gram:  A handicraft village perfect for shopping.
• Sula Winery:  Taste award-winning wines at this vineyard.
• Sindhudurg:  An impressive ocean fort built between 1664-1667
• Goa Beaches:  Magical expanses of sand
• Basilica of Bom Jesus:  A Portuguese 16^th century church
• Se Cathedral Church:  This beautiful Portuguese-looking building is one of the largest churches in Asia, built in 1562
• Church of Saint Francis of Assisi:  Built in 1661 by the Portuguese, emulating Portuguese architecture
• Museum of Goan Antiquities:  Step back in time to mull over Goa’s cultural history. 
  
• Mangeshi Hindu Temple:   This serene temple is one of the largest, most enchanting  temples in Goa
• Sahakari Spice Farm:  A lush green farm growing popular spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and cardamom
• New Palace, Kolhapur:  Built in 1884, it houses a collection of memorabilia, as well as being the home of the Maharajah
• Bhavani Mandap Mahalaxmi Temple:   Historical building situated in the walled city centre of Kolhapur, with architecture typical of the British Raj
• Shalini Palace: Sitting by the Rankala Lake, this beautiful building is built of intricately carved black stone and Italian marble, its decorative wooden doorways fitted with etched Belgium glass and  black stone arches forming verandahs.
• Menezes Braganza Pereira house:  A 350-year-old Portuguese heritage house.

With  21 carriages taking just 80 passengers in total, the train includes over 30 staff to oversee a comfortable journey.

There is plenty of space with just 8 passengers per carriage in Deluxe class.  There are 2 presidential suite carriages with 2 suites per carriage.  There is one valet per carriage to attend to your needs.

Various on-board facilities such as the Spa, internet access and  laundry service are chargeable.  There are daily newspapers, and a foreign exchange service.
