Indian Pacific

From the shores of the Pacific to the Indian Ocean, the Indian Pacific's rails bind southern Australia.

The Indian Pacific is an elegantly luxurious train with comfortable interiors. The modern suites with their wooden surroundings contrast to the fantastic retro-Edwardian décor of the dining car, all complete with panoramic windows for perfect observation as the train crosses the vast continent.

Whether the final destination is west to Perth or east to Sydney, there are opportunities to leave the train and experience some of the region's highlights, creating memories on one of the longest train journeys in the world.

Indian Pacific map Luxury Train Club

There are also shorter journeys - Adelaide to Sydney and Adelaide to Perth. Please ask for details.

Perth to Sydney

Perth (10:00hrs) to Sydney (15:15 hrs) - Sunday departure

For four days and three nights, the Indian Pacific travels between Perth and Sydney on a fascinating luxury train journey. From the Indian Ocean on the western shore to the Pacific on the east, the passing backdrop of magnificent landscapes highlight the vastness of Australia.

Day 1 – Perth to Kalgoorlie. Perth, a sunny, beach-loving city that is closer to Singapore than Sydney and an important gateway to Asia. As the train departs Perth, it climbs through the scenic Avon Valley and into Western Australia's expansive wheat belt, before arriving late evening at your first stop in the gold rush town of Kalgoorlie. After a couple of hours the train departs to travel overnight.

Day 2 – Nullarbor Plain. Sunrise comes as the journey moves through the mallee scrub and into the ancient Nullarbor Plain. Nullabor is Latin for 'no trees', which creates a barren landscape that appears unchanged for millennia. Waiting ahead is the charm of the once-thriving Nullarbor railway community – now ghost town – of Cook. Sit back and relax as the train continues its trek across the longest single stretch of railway in the world. Another mouth-watering dinner is followed by relaxed conversation in the lounge before a restful night’s sleep.

Day 3 – Adelaide. We arrive here early in the morning, passing colonial buildings surrounded by park lands, beaches and hills. The off train excursions in Adelaide are a guided coach tour; a visit to the Adelaide Oval; or a progressive breakfast guided tour of the Adelaide Central Market. In Broken Hill the choices are a visit to the Regional Art Gallery of NSW, a visit to The Big Picture (a 100m long acrylic painting of the Australian Outback); or a visit to The Palace Hotel, made famous in the film The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, for a drag show.

Day 4 – Sydney. Wake in the picturesque Blue Mountains. See the majestic Three Sisters at Echo Point and the views at Jamison Valley before completing your journey on our chartered NSW rail service (fully hosted by the staff) into Sydney Central Station. Alternatively, stay on board the Indian Pacific to travel directly to Sydney.

Sydney to Perth

Sydney (15:00hrs) to Perth (15:00hrs) - Wednesday departure. (Sept-Nov depart 13:25hrs)

Day 1 - Sydney. Prepare for a journey of contrasts, from lush vineyards to vast goldmines, majestic mountains to the barren expanse of the Nullabor, from cities of four million to ghost towns of four. As the train winds through the breathtaking Blue Mountains, enjoy time onboard before enjoying a regionally-inspired dinner paired with all-inclusive fine wines and beverages. After dinner, join fellow guests for a late night drink or head back to your cabin for your first night onboard.

Day 2 - Barossa Valley and Adelaide surrounds. Lunch is served onboard as the Indian Pacific enters the southern tip of the spectacular and ancient Flinders Ranges. Arriving in the city of Adelaide in the afternoon, you have the choice of a tour of the city; a visit to the world famous Barossa Valley or McLaren Vale wine regions (seasonal), or a trip to the beautiful Adelaide Hills featuring the culinary delights of Hahndorf.

Day 3 - Nullarbor Plain. Awake to the seemingly endless expanse of the Nullarbor Plain. Breakfast as you travel along the longest stretch of straight railway track in the world. This evening, enjoy the tranquillity of dinner under the brilliant desert stars in the remote and beautiful Rawlinna (seasonal).

Day 4 - Perth. Breakfast whilst travelling through the cool green vales of the Avon Valley on your way to Perth, arriving after an onboard lunch.
